THE SHAPE OF TIME: PHILADELPHIA MUSEUM OF ART |
Students from Honors and AP Art, the AAPI Alliance Club and the DEIJ Council attended a field trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Friday, February 2nd. In addition to tours of the permanent art collections in the East Asian Galleries, students viewed the exhibit The Shape of Time: Korean Art after 1989, the “first contemporary Korean art exhibit at a US museum in over a decade” as cited on the museum’s website. The exhibit features a variety of installations from Korean artists who ‘rapidly came of age’ during a time in which Korea’s political landscape was shifting from authoritarian rule to new democratic experiences. The field trip was coordinated by Mrs. Hohenstein, Department Chair & Faculty, Art, sponsored by the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice Department and chaperoned by Mrs. Hohenstein, Ms. Roberson, and Ms. Naucodie, moderator of the AAPI Alliance Club. |

| On Thursday, February 1st, students participated in an all-school assembly titled You Are Welcome Here which helped students to explore the lived experiences of women migrating or seeking asylum, due to poverty, gender -based violence or conflicts such as the Israeli-Hamas war. The assembly was led by DEIJ Interns Aiden Arrington ’25 and Ella Rocco ’25. Leveraging the No Place for Hate curriculum developed by the Antidefamation League (ADL), students learned how the way in which we ‘frame’ women, the immigrant experience, and the ways in which we use language can either foster communities of inclusion or communities of exclusion for these vulnerable groups. |
